We are settling in nicely here in Hillsboro, and unlike many of the locals who dread the long rainy winter I am so far enjoying the weather. All I have to tell myself is that rain is better than snow and it’s easy to have a positive outlook on the rainy days. Days like these are perfect for sitting around in your pajamas all day and baking; both of which I have been doing a lot of lately.

It occurred to me the other day that I really hadn’t taken many pictures of my own family lately. It’s sad, but since taking up photography I guess I don’t take the time to capture all those silly moments I normally would with a point and shoot in hand. It’s my new goal to take some at least every week, if not more often. I have THOUSANDS of images of my oldest as a baby, and I feel guilty looking at the images I have taken of my youngest. Granted, my standards and skills have changed since my oldest was that age and I don’t need to take as many to get the shot I want anymore. This also means, though, that I pass up some of those hilarious candid moments I might have caught by accident before and kept even though it was way out of focus or whatever. With that in mind I want to share a few from today….. It was no small feat to get my youngest to sit still long enough to get a “normal” shot, and I was about to give up entirely, but I am glad I didn’t because his crazy personality really shows in these images and I know I will look back on them years from now and smile. My oldest, as you can tell, is also full of personality, and wanted to look like a mean vampire lol.

So without further adieu, here are my silly little guys, doing what they do best.

and as you can see, it’s not all smiles when mom’s camera comes out, but this is also a perfect example of Archer’s personality lol.

Saying Goodbye : Sandpoint, ID Photographer

I have been putting this off for a few days now because I just wasn’t sure how to announce something like this. The good news is that I will not be saying goodbye forever…. however this IS goodbye to the Sandpoint area. While away on our family vacation this year, we were called about a job in Portland, OR and decided to go ahead and try for it. Fast forward a week or so later and here we are, all ready to make the big move! We are very excited, and looking forward to all the opportunities Portland has to offer for our family, but at the same time I am a bit sad that for a while at least, I will be closing up shop. My plan is to open back up when we are fully settled over there, and I get a chance to learn the area. I have no timeline at this point, but in the mean time I will try to keep up with the blog with some non-business images from time to time.

I have enjoyed working here in Sandpoint, and I have had some great clients. I wish them all the best! And a big hello to the Portland/Hillsboro area!

Because I do not want to leave without a picture I will share a quick snapshot I took of my family Sunday night.

I am so excited about this one. Of course I love taking images for ALL my clients, but it’s not every day that a girl gets to say she was contacted by something as prestigious as Penn State to do a photo session for them and have the images published in one of their articles! Obviously Penn State is quite far from Sandpoint ID, so you may wonder why they asked me…. the answer is that they were featuring Jeff Kuhns, a former employee who is now retired and living here in Sandpoint, in an article about the history of telecommunications. I will be linking the article below so you can take a look. They not only wanted images that captured Jeff’s kindness and great personality, but they also wanted the images to showcase Idaho.

Jeff is a great guy, and both he and his wife are just as kind as the people at Penn State told me they would be. I had a great time working with them, and I am very happy with how everything turned out. I will share the images below I submitted, and you can see in the article how they utilized a few in clever ways to make it appear as if they were actually IN the iphone.

It’s been a whirlwind summer : Sandpoint Custom Photographer

From the awful weather that plagued us for the beginning of the season, to all my client work recently and everything in between I haven’t had much time to really DO summer with my kids. It was such a long winter, and we all felt very cooped up inside all the time. We have been greatly enjoying the warmer weather of late, and in an effort to get our oldest used to the water for our upcoming family vacation we decided to get a little blow-up pool for the yard. BEST IDEA EVER! Not only did we finally get him to play in the water…. at least a little bit…. but our youngest LOVES it! It amazes me how different they are when it comes to things like that. Anyway, the first day we set it up I grabbed my camera real quick and snapped off a few shots just for me and while they may not be perfect technically they perfectly capture the excitement of the day and I think they are just too adorable. They grow up SOOOO fast!

On a little side note…. I mentioned our family vacation above. We are packing up and braving a LONG road trip to visit family in MN and WI for a few weeks. I don’t know if we are crazy or adventurous at this point but I am excited about it either way. I won’t be taking any more sessions before we leave, but will be back, ready to work by August 27th. So if you were considering booking a session yet this summer now is the time to save your spot! Hard to believe that by the time we get back summer will already almost be over!

J & B : Photography in Sandpoint, ID

The other night I had a session scheduled with J, with the purpose of getting images to use in an upcoming article in which he will be featured. His lovely wife (B) came along, and they asked me to get a few shots of the two of them while we were at it. I was more than happy to oblige for such a friendly couple.

With already more than 30 years of marriage under their belts, and being so obviously still in love, there is no doubt in my mind they have another 30 or more years together ahead of them. I wish them all the best, and I just wanted to say it was a pleasure meeting them!

Pure Perfection : Sandpoint Newborn Photographer

I had the absolute pleasure of spending the entire afternoon with this special little lady. You may remember her family from my most recent, maternity session. I know her mom was anxious for her to finally arrive, but she was more than worth the wait I venture. Such a happy, and easy baby…. never really crying the whole time I was there. She was more than content to sleep the entire time, and loved being wrapped up and snuggled in a basket. I have so many great images to make up their gallery, and can’t wait to get them all done, but here are just a couple for their sneak peek. The first one was just one of those times where being in the right place at the right time really paid off, and the second one is one I hope they all will cherish for many years to come as little miss H grows up to surely be daddy’s little girl!

As always, it was a pleasure working with their family, and I thank them for allowing me into their home and to spend time with their newest bundle of joy.

One Big Happy Family : North Idaho Family Photographer

Over the holiday weekend I had the pleasure of shooting this great group for their family reunion. The weather was gorgeous… almost TOO gorgeous since we had to fight the sun the entire time…. and everyone did well despite the heat, and the fact that they must have been starving since it sounds like they hadn’t eaten dinner before I came! Normally I like to put up somewhere between 1-3 sneak peeks a day or two after our session, just to make the wait a little easier for the full gallery, but with the holiday weekend I was traveling and doing the family thing myself. I think a bit of compromise was in order this time. Rather than make them wait longer…. since I am sure they are dying to see at least one…. I decided to work on my favorite group shot and get that up tonight!

So here it is! Thanks again for the opportunity to work with your family, and I hope you enjoy your little sneak peek. Now I will get back to working on your full gallery.

Best Friends : Sandpoint Family Photographer

I titled this post Best Friends because it was obvious to me that these two were just that! Our session was a lot of fun, and I loved the personality from this little guy.

Up, Up, & Away! : Sandpoint Children Photographer

I’ve been pretty busy lately, and tend to forget to keep up my blog from time to time. I need to get some other stuff ready to post up on here, but for now I thought I would just share a fun shot I did with my own kids last night as a spur of the moment sort of thing. So please forgive the odd mismatched clothing choices, the awkwardness of the posing (my youngest was not really into the whole thing so I had to have my husband place him and jump out of the shot really quick as I snapped away), and all the other little technical issues. It may not be one of my best images ever, but I found it so comical I just HAD to play with it.

I got the idea of the balloons from a fellow photog and thought it was so cute. While I was editing it last night I had a crazy idea to make it move! I don’t pretend to be really great at this sort of thing…. I only know a little about creating gifs, but I think it turned out fairly well, and I know my kids thought it was the coolest thing ever! It was worth the hassle to see the smiles on their faces this morning when seeing it for the first time.
